“Our year round artistic programme of commissions and residencies support Lumen’s aim to nurture and exhibit art of excellence from established and emerging artists for audiences” – artistic director Lucy Dusgate

2010:

Commissioning programme in 2010:
Lumen have secured ‘imove Yorkshire’ and ‘Awards for All’ funding. This enables us to produce  a series of  8 new artistic commissions around the theme of human movement, and be site specific. This will produce a DVD and over ten screenings of the work to audiences, including free public outdoor screenings across the Yorkshire region. There will also be a programme of media training and master classes to enable all to participate.

We are developing a year round momentum that involves commissioning, audiences and art practitioners. This will support some of the UK’s brightest and talented contemporary artists.

NORTH film commission:

This Opera North commission combines Lumen’s film artist Phil Slocombe with Norwegian sound artist Terje Isungset. The Assembly Rooms hosted this spectacular tryptic installation film and sound piece. Lumen’s imagery takes us deep into the real North and the North of our collective imaginations.

Insungset is considered the pioneer of ice-instruments, at once avant-garde and deeply rooted in the traditions of Scandinavian music. Audiences were immersed in an unforgettable experience of falling snow, cracking ice and the real people for whom this is home. Our thanks to Opera North for commissioning the project. October 2009
